The Problem

Men leaving addiction recovery programs often face significant barriers to long-term stability. While recovery addresses sobriety, many men struggle to find meaningful work, develop marketable skills, and rebuild confidence and purpose.

Without structured training, mentorship, and accountability, the risk of relapse and long-term unemployment remains high.

Our Solution

Safe Haven Boatwrights provides a structured apprenticeship where men learn traditional wooden boatbuilding while developing discipline, confidence, and employable skills.

The program is recognized by the State of North Carolina and designed in alignment with nationally recognized Registered Apprenticeship standards, ensuring meaningful workforce training and clear pathways to skill development.

Apprentices learn in a professional shop environment through hands-on work, mentorship, and progressive responsibility tied to demonstrated competency.

Who We Serve

Safe Haven Boatwrights serves men transitioning from addiction recovery programs who are ready to commit to disciplined work, skill development, and personal responsibility.

Participants enter the program through referral partnerships and are supported within a small-cohort, mentor-driven apprenticeship environment focused on accountability, consistency, and long-term success.

The program is designed for individuals who are prepared to engage in structured, hands-on training and to progress through clearly defined expectations and responsibilities.

Participation requires commitment, consistency, and a willingness to be accountable within a working environment.

Why It Works

Safe Haven Boatwrights is built around a simple premise: meaningful work, clear expectations, and sustained mentorship create conditions for long-term growth and stability.

Rather than short-term interventions, the program emphasizes consistency, responsibility, and skill development over time through real projects and measurable progress.

• Hands-on training tied to real work and tangible outcomes
• Progressive responsibility linked to demonstrated competency
• A small-cohort environment that reinforces accountability
• Long-term mentorship within a professional shop setting
• Clearly defined expectations that mirror real-world employment

By combining craftsmanship, structure, and accountability, the program creates a durable pathway for skill development and workforce readiness.
